ManuelVision, or How Self-Aware is the New Rock

And so we come to the close of 'Watching Premieres with Manuel" - it's been a good two weeks. We laughed with Barney, enjoyed Katee kicking ass, fell in love with a certain 'undead'/'alive again' show, Star Warred with Peter and we couldn't get a better show to end with than my newest obsession: Tina Fey's hilarious 30 Rock:

Thursday

8:30 30 Rock (NBC)
What do you get when you mix Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey? An amazing half-hour of TV. The beginning of season 2 sees everyone at TGS getting back to routine after a summer hiatus. Jane Krakowski gets the Jamie Bamber BSG Season 3 premiere treatment and shows us what happens when you, star in Mystic Pizza, the Musical! Tracy Jordan ties the knot with the adorable Kenneth the Page (who's one scene in the elevator with Seinfeld was hilarious). Alec and Tina keep trying to convince themselves into thinking "this will be our year!" (and with an Emmy under their belt, I really hope it is) - only yielding a great neurotic Jack-breakdown and a boyfriend-less wedding-gown wearing Liz. The whole show had me laughing out loud - Seinfeld's virtual guest-starring roles (on Deal or no Deal, and SVU to name a few) are really funny, but the punchline came when he tells Jack that he kinda likes LOST "Could I guest-star on that?" Oh NBC you are so self-aware (something we rarely see outside of FOX in Groening shows) - "You wouldn't buy NBC Seinfeld, you don't have $4 million doll... oh god"

Favourite Part of the Show: Jack 'consoling' Liz - "Lemon, women your age are more likely to get mauled at the Zoo than get married"

But really the best part was Liz crying with Seinfeld, mocking - and yet 'not-mocking' - Jerry's hysterical and over the top acting from way-back-when: funny, too funny.

I loved Jerry breaking the fourth wall with his bee movie plug. I'm glad to know that self promotion is not beneath NBC (cough*FOX*cough).
